Tips for Different Arch Types

For Low Arches (Flat Feet)

  • Look for motion-control or stability shoes with firm midsoles
  • Choose shoes with straight lasts (shape) that help control overpronation
  • Consider orthotic inserts with good arch support
  • Avoid completely flat shoes with no support
  • Exercises: Toe curls, arch lifts, and calf stretches can help strengthen arch muscles

For Normal Arches

  • Neutral cushioned shoes work well for most activities
  • Look for shoes with moderate arch support
  • Semi-curved lasts fit most normal arches
  • Replace shoes regularly to maintain proper support
  • Exercises: Regular foot stretches and balance exercises to maintain arch health

For High Arches

  • Look for cushioned shoes with flexible midsoles
  • Choose shoes with curved lasts to accommodate the arch shape
  • Extra cushioning in the heel and ball of the foot areas
  • Consider custom orthotics for proper support
  • Exercises: Plantar fascia stretches, calf stretches, and arch massages
