How We Calculate Distance
- Vertical Distance: Step height × Number of steps × Number of flights
- Horizontal Distance: Step depth × Number of steps × Number of flights
- Total Distance: The direct path traveled, calculated using the Pythagorean theorem (√(vertical² + horizontal²))
- Equivalent Flat Distance: Takes into account that climbing stairs requires more effort than walking on a flat surface. Generally, one foot of vertical climbing equals 3-5 feet of horizontal walking.
