Calculation Methods

Individual Tree Canopy Area

For a circular tree canopy, the formula used is:

Area = π × r² = π × (Diameter ÷ 2)²

Where r is the radius of the tree canopy (half the crown diameter).

Oval/Elliptical Tree Canopy

For an oval-shaped tree canopy, we use an adjustment factor:

Area = 0.8 × π × r²

This accounts for the oval shape being approximately 80% of a perfect circle.

Coverage Percentage

To calculate the percentage of land covered by tree canopy:
