Frequently Asked Questions
Pattern repeats require additional material because each strip must be aligned with adjacent strips. The larger the pattern repeat, the more waste material is typically generated. Our calculator adjusts for this by calculating the number of pattern repeats needed for your wall height and ensuring that each strip starts at the same point in the pattern.
Our calculator already includes a 10% waste allowance to account for cutting errors and pattern matching. However, for complex room layouts or if you’re new to wallpapering, consider purchasing an additional roll. This provides peace of mind and ensures you have material for future repairs or patch-ups.
To measure your room correctly:
- Measure the width of each wall from corner to corner
- Measure the height from floor to ceiling
- Measure the width and height of all doors and windows
- For irregular shaped rooms, break the room into rectangular sections and calculate each separately
Standard wallpaper roll dimensions vary by country:
- US/North America: 20.5 inches wide × 33 feet long (52 cm × 10 m)
- Europe: 53 cm wide × 10 m long (20.9 inches × 33 feet)
- UK: 52 cm wide × 10 m long (20.5 inches × 33 feet)
Always check your specific wallpaper roll dimensions as they may vary by manufacturer.
A “double roll” is simply two single rolls packaged as one unit. In the US, wallpaper is commonly sold in double rolls. If you’re purchasing double rolls, remember to divide our calculator’s result by 2 (rounding up for partial rolls).
